Happy New Year! Hello 2021

January 15, 2021

Well, have you taken them all down and had a massive clear up yet? I can’t tell you how glad I was about 2 weeks into the festive season that I’d faked it – no droopy balding trees with needles appearing in the strangest places. When de-Christmasing took place all I had to do was fold up 2 trees, pop them back in their boxes and hold the ladder while Mark dragged them up into the loft. As forgeries go,…

It’s Christmas!

January 15, 2021

Hello, It’s years since I’ve said this and meant it. I’m enjoying and looking forward to Christmas this year – and the reason? Because for the first time it doesn’t feel like a greed fest. Due to the pandemic, we’ve stared our mortality in the face, been forced to reassess our priorities and collectively come to the conclusion that the biggest presents under the tree are relationships and human kindness. Also don’t forget that Baby Jesus wasn’t actually born on…

Little Update & A Seasonal Tip…

December 17, 2020

Hope you’ve had a good week, I’ve been beavering away but, like all of us, crossing the days off until we’re allowed “Out Out” – a phrase my 90-year-old mum used the other day to prove she’s up to date with street talk! So, I have a little observation which you might be able to relate to… About three times a week I pop in to M&S for food. Their Madagascan Vanilla Custard is perfection, Rosie Huntington Whiteley’s underwired balcony…

Decorations up early?!

December 12, 2020

I can’t believe how many people – including myself – have said, “lets get those decorations up a little earlier than usual” – partly because some of us have a little extra time on our hands, but also because there’s nothing like a few baubles to put that childlike smile on our little faces and lift our spirits. I can’t believe how many people – including myself – have said, “lets get those decorations up a little earlier than usual”…

Let The Christmas Preparations Commence…

November 12, 2020

I said last week I wouldn’t moan so I won’t, even though it’s taking my complete reserve of resolve not to as I’m a total anti- lockdowner. That on one side (she says with a high- pitched voice and pursed lips), let’s get on with Christmas preparations as best we can, to keep ourselves sane in this crazy world. There is proven calm satisfaction in crafting, but the two main reasons people give for not attempting it are time and…

Cooking, Girls Nights & Dog Lovers!

November 12, 2020

During our weekly chit-chat, Editor Stuart asked me to give you a few Christmas tips. Well, I’m your girl for that task, as under my writing belt I have my book The Perfect Christmas which is awash with tips on how to survive and relish the festive season. So this week, next, and all the others until the big day, you’ll get a little nugget from me. My first tip, however, isn’t in the aforementioned book because it wasn’t relevant…

The Countdown begins…

November 2, 2020

I have a confession to make… this weekend, wooed by discounts and offers, I pulled out my Christmas list and hit “Add To Basket”. I know, I know, I always say savour the seasons, and I can’t bear to look at Christmas until the last sparkler has fizzed out on bonfire night, but this year is going to be different, and rules will be broken and rules will be made. I think Christmas has become a greedy retail fest we…

Well I had a rubbish week…

October 26, 2020

Well I had a rubbish week for two reasons. One, I had the back window of my car smashed in by thieves who then got into my boot and took a loved Mulberry holdall. Nothing in it of immediate use to them like money, laptop, iPad or phone – just personal stuff like make-up, hairdryer, brushes, notebook and a jacket. In fact the damage to fix the vandalism was more costly than the haul. I know there are worse things…

Are you a radiator or are you a drain?

October 24, 2020

Yes, I have been having plumbing issues this week, but that’s another story! But back to my question… do you wake with the intention of breathing life into your day, or do you wake under a cloud thinking about all the things that are wrong with your life? When someone asks how you are, a list of moans drip out of your mouth and your glass isn’t just half empty, it’s still in the cupboard! Many years ago I remember…
