Happy birthday mum!

October 31, 2011

Last weekend I went up to my home town of Stoke-on-Trent to celebrate mum’s birthday with the family. It’s so near to Halloween that Jack and Freddie always take over and put a ‘spooky’ touch to it, as you can see by the cakes they made and Jack’s rather disgusting ‘puking pumpkin’!…

Feet first

October 13, 2011

I was making a Banoffee Pie and realised my apartment kitchen didn’t have anything to bash the biscuits with. A Ziplock and my feet were most effective!…

A great Thanks Giving

October 13, 2011

I had my first proper Canadian Thanks Giving this Year and managed 2 feasts in 2 days.I went to Corbin’s house on the Sunday – and if you’re not going to get a good lunch at a chef’s house it’s time to pack in – and the Monday saw me with my friends Joe and Dagma Houlihan who like me are Brits abroad embracing the festivities. Thanks Giving in North America falls on the 2nd Monday in October and it…

A fantastic film

October 13, 2011

The Help is an amazing film – you have to see it. Beautifully shot, brilliantly acted and the story will have you gripped. Although dealing with the bigger picture of racism in Mississippi during the 60’s the film keeps firmly to the story of one small town and 3 amazing women who between them challenge the small minded beliefs which were prevalent and largely not up for discussion. When leaving the theatre we all ‘tut tutted’ about how people could have…

Sorted!

October 6, 2011

My little nephew Freddie took advantage of the recent heatwave by having a surfing lesson down at Boscombe Beach, Bournemouth. He’s pictured here with Sam – his instructor and new BFF! Sunny or not the ‘Sorted’ Surf School and shop is open all year round and Freddie is keen to get down there again. As his mother hates getting her face wet I don’t expect Wendy to join him in the water any time soon! www.bournemouth-surfschool.co.uk…

What to wear?!

October 3, 2011

Last week I did that horrendous job of swapping summer and winter clothes around (my wardrobe struggles to do both at the same time). Then what happens? The UK weather turns into the Indian Summer of our dreams and I’m scrambling back up the loft to retrieve a few lighter items. After a summer stuffed in IKEA storage bags (amazing things) there was only a little steam ironing and cleaning needed. My steamer (featured in Products We Love) was on…

Sounds from the underground

October 3, 2011

I was on the London Underground on my way to the hairdressers and over the speaker system came ‘a voice’ giving rail information. The man couldn’t speak, he ran his words into each other, spoke too quickly and for the life of me I couldn’t hear a word he said. in fact it was so bad people on the platform were laughing. Wouldn’t it lift our spirits if Boris launched ‘LU Radio’? Professional broadcasters would give us updates on our journey, what’s on in the…

Glamming it up

October 3, 2011

I recently did a photo shoot for the Daily Mail and it was a joy to do because it brought together Suzanne Dando, Linda Barker Carol Smillie and myself. Having spent so many years in the business we all know each other and have so much in common but never managed before to be all in the same place at the same time. It was fab stories, ribbing, gossip and female bonding. Click on Haircare under Lifestyle for more….…
