BA stop nightmare in New York

August 31, 2011

My brother in law Gary Webster went on a 2 night business to trip to New York – only to arrive and hit the chaos of Hurricane Irene! He had booked through the British Airways web site, purchasing the flight and hotel as a package. He soon learned that 2 nights was going to turn into 6 and upon checking the legalities it looked like he would have to stump up the money for 3 of the extra nights himself.…

Andrea’s Apple & Almond Tart

August 29, 2011

My friend Andrea, who admittedly is a professional cook made this glorious Apple and Almond tart…and oh my goodness; it was a taste from the heavens. It had a light pastry base which not only showed off the look of the appeals but allowed their taste to shine through. There was much begging from me to share her recipe… and now you have it. Enjoy Instructions: 50g Butter 50g Sugar 125g Ground Almonds 1 med Egg 3 drops of Almond Essence 3…

Get Saucy with HP

August 29, 2011

I often make  Shepherds Pies to freeze as they are so handy if you’ve got people coming and going.  I use the time honoured recipe which you can find in most cookery books (Delia’s is always a safe bet) but my secret ingredient which makes it ping is HP Sauce!  For years I have been a fan of this humble bottle of delicious brown stuff and a bacon buttie cannot pass my lips unless it has been dipped in the…

My Perfect Hostess Trolley

August 29, 2011

A major purchase has taken place… After years of loyal service and probably too many moves my old hostess trolley has been sent to the appliance graveyard. And winging its way via Amazon is its replacement – a Hostess HL6232SV Connoisseur Trolley in Silver. If you are a regular entertainer this is your saviour – the best kitchen assistant you’ll ever have, it doesn’t talk back and only ever asks for a wipe over! Generally speaking very few dishes we produce are difficult but…

Off on a Huff

August 18, 2011

I know my Mum said, “I want never gets” but I want a Huffy bike! On a recent trip to Miami we decided to hire some bikes and take a cruise along South Beach and WOW – the best and most comfy ride. I’ve become obsessed with owning one. Where I think I’m going to go on it I’m not sure but the bike is a thing of beauty. http://www.huffy.com…

Reaching for the stars

August 18, 2011

Lynda Joyce – Astrologer & Life Coach Most of us read our horoscopes and within seconds forget them but it doesn’t stop us having a peek. I am a bit of a ‘Fence Sitter’ when it comes to the planets but it’s an ancient art and at times of trouble we seek in every corner for answers that comfort and help us through. Once when going through a personal crisis I met Lynda and her overview of my situation, the tools she…

Why I love organic!

August 18, 2011

A ground-breaking new cookbook, Discover Organic, has been launched by the Why I Love Organic campaign in time for Organic September 2011 – and I’m delighted that one of my favourite organic recipes has been included! In Discover Organic celebrities, chefs and home cooks share their passion for organic food, and show just how easy it is to eat organic. Their stories and recipes demonstrate how eating organic doesn’t have to be difficult, exclusive or expensive. It’s practical, great tasting, better for…

What bliss

August 7, 2011

I  recently popped into the Bliss Spa at the ‘W’ Hotel in Miami. The lovely thing about this chain is their consistency; wherever you are you know what you’re going to get. I came out with a product that made my skin feel so soft – it’s called ‘Hot Salt Scrub with Rosemary and Eucalyptus’. You rub in a circular motion all over a dry skin and then shower off. Great to do anytime but definitely before you start on…

Booted off Facebook!

August 2, 2011

I have been in the middle of suffering the ultimate social rejection – blocked from my own Facebook page because according to Big Facebook Brother I am not who I say I am and the palaver to prove my authenticity requires DNA!! I decided to join this phenomenon of our time to keep in touch with friends whilst away from home. Prior to this I’d derided social networking as being a teenage waste of time and energy. Well eat your…
