This Weeks Thoughts

So many lovely things to talk about from this week’s magazine but I’m going to pick the two closest to my heart. The first being knitwear, I LOVE it all so much so a colleague at GMTV gave me a nickname Four ply - Jumpers, cardigans, hoodies, scarves, gloves, throws, wraps and even trousers I adore them all, not only do they have a positive place in fashion there is I believe a significant something else they bring to our life party and that comes from what the garments are made of and the feelings we have when wrapped in their soft textures. We’ve often spoken here of Hygge referring to the Danish way of life which is about atmosphere and experience rather than things and the Danes love knitwear.

So, this is my tip to take a little bit of Hygge wherever you go and it’s in the form of a wrap, mine isn’t a massive one but soft and wide enough to ‘wrap’ myself up in, around my shoulders, over my knees and sometimes my head. This wrap (I have a favourite) goes with me on train, car and plane journeys, it gets pulled out when I’m away from home, eating alfresco and here’s the confession…. I’m so worried about losing it I found an old, yes very old, school name tape of mine and its now sown into the inside!

But I’m not the only person in this family who likes the feel of my knit awear and its Soho our French bulldog which brings me neatly on to my other favourite subject in our magazine Fur Babies, it’s a term that up until recently I’d never heard of or likely to use I thought it was for sad people, the dogs in my life, were ‘Proper’ dogs Collies, Golden Retrivers but now I have the human equivalent of a demanding, stubborn, excitable, lovable, picky eating two year old who has stollen my heart. Having a dog is a huge commitment but the rewards of the relationship are immense. I first realised the power of a companion dog such as Soho after my Mother died and Dad was left alone to pick up the pieces. We were all there to help, but not every moment of the day during this hellish transition. Dad is a proud man, but my sister and I could see him struggling. Soho, a regular visitor to Staffordshire where my dad lives, adores not only the journey there, he has a car obsession, but the life when he has with Pops when there. The aroma of foxes, badgers’ and rabbits are intoxicating for a city dog so when we left for Greece, Soho went to Stoke and over the phone I heard my dad come to life, Soho had given him a reason and there began his recovery. The power of pets is immense, and I would urge you if lonely to seriously consider giving a home to a little sole who just wants to be your friend and make a nest out of your knitwear should you leave it on the floor!!
